Topics

Forums are composed of topics. There are 2 main types of topics: general topics, and game topics. General topics are topics about the website or general things about games. Game topics are topics that are for specific games.

If you would like a specific game to be added to the game topics, first read this post, then you can create a thread in this topic.

Threads

Threads are created within topics and should follow the general rules for the forum. You can create a thread by clicking the "Create New Thread" button within a topic. Here you can type in the headline for your post, this will show up in the topic threads list, and the body of your post. As you type, the post will show you a formatted preview below. Once you've completed your post, you can click the "Post" button at the bottom of the page to submit your thread.

You can reply to threads by navigating to the bottom of a thread chain and typing into the box that says "Post...". As you type, the post will show you a formatted preview below. Once you've completed your post, you can click the "Post" button at the bottom of the page to submit your post to the thread.

Formatting

The forum uses a simplified (incomplete) version of Markdown for formatting your posts. A legend of the formatting can be found to the right of this page or the forum landing page.

Images

Game Goat uses a very simple, custom built system. The aim of the site is to focus on games and not on site fluff and bloat. To this end, we do not support uploading images directly to the web server. Instead, we support linking images from around the world wide web. When you link an image to the web site, it will present an "Open image" button next to the link. Upon clicking this button, the image will be loaded directly inline.

To find the link to an image on the global internet, first navigate to the website that has the image you wish to use. Next, right-click on the image and select "Copy image address". This will create a copy of the image URL to your computer clipboard. Next paste the image link using the link formatting rules for hyperlinks [name](URL). So the format would look like:

[Fancy image](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f4/Game-Boy-FL.jpg/800px-Game-Boy-FL.jpg)

Note that your image should end with or include one of the following image extensions: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .bmp, .webp, .svg, .tiff, .ico

Steam Images

Steam is an online game distribution platform with built-in features for capturing your in-game screen (typically F12 key). These images can then be made public for sharing with others. If you've made your image public, you can share the image on the forums as well, just open your steam client, navigate to your username in the menu bar, then select "Content" from the drop down. Here you will have a tab for your public screenshots. Select any screenshot, then right-click the expanded image and select "Copy link address". Next just follow the formatting rules stated above for image links.

Videos

Game Goat uses a very simple, custom built system. The aim of the site is to focus on games and not on site fluff and bloat. To this end, we do not support uploading videos directly to the web server. Instead, we support linking videos from the Odysee or YouTube web domains. When you link a video, it will be embedded directly into your post.

First locate the video you wish to link to. Then click in the URL navigation bar of your browser. Next copy the link to your computer clipboard. Next paste the video link using the link formatting rules for hyperlinks [name](URL). So the format would look like:

[Fancy video](https://youtu.be/Cqd1Gvq-RBY)

You will see either:

<embeded youtube video will be inserted here>

or

<embeded youtube video will be inserted here>

If you see one of these 2 messages, your video will be embedded into the forum post. If you do not see one of these messages in the post preview, then you should review the link you copied and try again.
